Installing traditional rack-mounted solar panels on rooftops creates holes that can lead to water leaks if not properly sealed. According to the company, thanks to the incorporation of a flexible thermoplastic polymer backing, GAF Energy’s Timberline Solar shingles can be nailed down like regular asphalt roofing without concerns about leakage. These solar shingles are lightweight, can withstand damage from heavy rain and heavy hail, and can withstand wind speeds of up to 130 miles per hour.

GAF Energy launched Timberline Solar in January and has done so partnered with certified roofing companies for promotion and assembly.

Timberline Solar has received three awards from CES 2022. It is one of the few most competitive solar shingle products on the market. Other competing products include CertainTeed shingles, Suntegra shingles, and Tesla’s solar roof.

Solar shingles have become a promising segment of the residential solar market. Its growth reflects the increasing demand from private customers for the aesthetics of the panels on their roofs.
