Nexamp and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 103 celebrated the completion of a solar-plus energy storage project at IBEW’s headquarters in Dorchester, Massachusetts.
The system combines 220kW of DC power from solar energy on IBEW’s rooftop with a ground-mounted, 200kWh AC-coupled lithium-ion battery (BESS) energy storage system behind the meter, delivering 265,000kWh of electricity per year, enough to cover almost 70 Percent of the power requirement of the IBEW headquarters. Together, the system enables the IBEW to store excess electricity from low-tariff periods and use it during high-price periods and in the event of disruptions caused by natural hazards.

“Nexamp is extremely proud of our partnership with IBEW and this project which will benefit Local 103 and its members for years to come,” said Zaid Ashai, CEO of Nexamp.
The partnership “builds on our longstanding relationship and helps us prepare for the urgent work ahead by building a renewable and resilient grid that creates local jobs and helps mitigate the worst impacts of climate change.” , continued Zaid.
This project comes at a crucial time with the recent passage of state and federal legislation that will accelerate the development of renewable energy and create clean energy jobs for more Americans. In August, President Biden signed the Inflation Reduction Act in force; Governor Baker signed the H5060 bill (A law to promote clean energy and offshore wind) into law.
For IBEW, this is one of many efforts to reduce carbon footprint, reduce energy costs and increase energy efficiency. It will also complement other completed upgrades, including facade-mounted solar panels and a wind turbine, which will power the group’s training center. All of this provides training opportunities for IBEW members who will install the advanced technologies at the heart of the clean energy transition.
Other officials who attended the ceremony at IBEW Local 103 were:
- Lou Antonellis, executive director of IBEW Local 103
- Representative Jeff Roy, Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Telecommunications, Utilities and Energy
- Representative Dan Hunt, Chair of the House Committee on Federal Stimulus and Census Oversight
