Whether for your own business or as a security measure for construction projects! Employee safety should come first! With the right impact protection, you can not only protect your employees and yourself, but also your inventory. We would like to explain the different options for impact protection and how you can effectively protect your employees.

1. Effectively protect people and assets and avoid accidents
You are an employer and would like to protect your employees and your inventory with a suitable impact protection? Then this is an excellent idea! But it is also required by law to ensure adequate safety for employees.
1.1. That’s why good crash protection makes sense
A secure job is the be-all and end-all! Whether on a construction site, in transport companies or in production halls, the safety of the employees must be guaranteed by the employer. If there is also personal injury that could have been prevented by taking the appropriate protective measures, this can lead to a report and a significant fine. Not only that, because the tools often cost thousands of euros and should therefore adequately protected to avoid damage.
1.2. Legal Policies and Laws
First of all – you as an employer have the responsibility that your employees are safe in your company! According to that Employee Protection Act (ASchG § 1ff) the employer must carry out a risk assessment to determine whether there are any possible hazards in the company. This must be specifically documented and finally the possible hazards must be eliminated by appropriate measures so that no employee has to take the risk of injury.
2. How can you protect something?
The solution to protect people and at the same time the inventory in your own company is the impact protection. Rammschutz is the title of the category of possible safety products, because these can look diverse. Among other things, there is the massive ram protection in yellow-black, the column protection, the wall protection profiles or also the pipe protection. In the following we would like to explain the various options to you in more detail.
Special instructions for necessary protective measures when building a photovoltaic system will also be on the BGHM website given. The PDF on the topic Occupational health and safety during the installation of photovoltaic systems can be downloaded directly here.
2.1. bull bar
For example, a bull bar can be used to protect a machine or a work area. Due to the shape of the bracket or the bar, it can be used very flexibly.
2.2. wall protection profiles
Is there a particularly high level of traffic at a certain point in the warehouse? Then the wall protection profiles are suitable here, which prevent damage to the wall.
2.3. column protection
The so-called column protection is intended to draw attention to exposed columns and pillars. For example, in parking garages or generally dark buildings, these can be quickly overlooked, so that a pillar protection protects against an impact. This not only protects the column itself, but also the vehicle and the driver.
2.4. Crash protection railing
Especially in a large warehouse with vehicles, work areas and storage levels, it is important to install railings that shield the individual sectors of the hall from each other. This not only has the advantage that the hall is separated and organized into the respective work areas, but at the same time no employee can get into the lane of the vehicles.
2.5. shelf protection
Significant product damage can occur in warehouses when a vehicle carrying heavy equipment crashes into the rack. Such a shelf protector is placed in front of the shelves. The strong yellow color catches the eye and allows the shelves to be well protected, especially in corner areas.
2.6. Surface and edge protection
You’ve probably bumped your head once (or more than once) trying to lift something off a shelf. In order to avoid this in your company, there is the so-called surface and edge protection. This is not only designed in bright yellow and black, but also consists of foam. This is how you protect the head and back of your employee’s head.
2.7. pipe protection
In many warehouses and companies there are pipes that are architecturally built outside the home. If these are hit and damaged, it can lead to immense problems and costs. This is where pipe protection can help!
2.8. Crash protection bollard
Surely you have already seen a so-called impact protection bollard. Instead of regular bollards, which we see at barriers or in parking lots, for example, the impact protection bollards are yellow and black and draw attention to passageways and building corners.
3. Which materials are suitable?
Since such ram protection products are often exposed to the weather, the quality must be right! We therefore recommend hot-dip galvanized stainless steel and high-quality plastic for indoor and outdoor areas. Note, however, that larger bullbars in particular should be made of thicker material to withstand an emergency situation.
3.1. Assemble correctly
Not only the quality of the materials is important, but also the correct attachment. Here you have two options, on the one hand you can screw the impact protection to the ground or the specific place and on the other hand you can even concrete it in. Setting it in concrete takes a lot more effort, but it is also more stable and generally more durable. Therefore, if you are willing to invest more time and effort, we would advise embedding the bull bar in concrete if possible.
