Multi-international sustainable energy developer based in Madrid Fotowatio Renewable Ventures (FRV), part of Abdul Latif Jameel Energy, received the preliminary environmental license to develop a 300 MWac solar farm in the Brazilian state of Ceará. It will provide solar power to more than 400,000 local homes.
The project, called Complexo Fotovoltaico Banabuiu Solar Farm, will be the first to be developed by FRV since it resumed operations in Brazil.

“This project marks an important milestone in FRV’s presence and plans in the Brazilian market. We are confident that the progress made on this project will allow us to continue to contribute to the decarbonization of the energy sector in Brazil and its independence from other fossil fuels”, Manuel Pavón, Managing Director of FRV South America.
The solar park covers an area of 648 hectares can generate over 745,000 MWh of electricity per year. It is expected that 93,780 tons of carbon emissions will be saved. From a broader economic perspective, the solar park will create more than 300 jobs for local contractors and suppliers during construction. According to Fady Jameel, Executive Vice President and Vice President of Abdul Latif Jameel Energy, this project demonstrates the company’s firm belief that empowering local communities is central to a successful energy transition. Not only will this project bring clean energy to more than 400,000 homes, it will also play a central role in local diversification efforts to fuel economic growth.
