Leading automaker Stellantis recently announced a partnership with Leader Energy, a provider of C&I solar solutions, to expand solar power generation at its Gurun facility in Malaysia. The cooperation includes the financing, installation, operation and maintenance of the solar PV systems as well as improving energy efficiency in the operation of the Gurun power plant.
Leader Solar Sdn Bhd (LSSB), a Malaysia-based subsidiary of Leader Energy, managed the project. Commissioned in October 2022, it is expected to reach a maximum output of 2,189.81 kW over the next 21 years and generate over 50 GWh of electricity, which can cover about 34% of Gurun Power Station’s annual electricity consumption and save 1,963.4 tons of carbon emissions.
Stellantis places building sustainable and profitable business models at the heart of its recent Dare Forward 2030 strategy. “We are excited to be working with partners like Leader Energy who are helping us to contribute to the fight against climate change. This partnership is a positive step for the ASEAN region and will help Stellantis achieve its industry-leading goal of net zero carbon by 2038. said Christophe Musy, Head of Sales at Stellantis.
Beyond the energy transition in the ASEAN market, Stellantis Partnership with US-based DTE Energy last month to add 400 MW of new solar capacity through a PPA, allowing Stellantis to replace 100% of its electricity use at its Michigan facilities with solar by 2026. The company also installed solar PV systems at its Mangualde plant in Portugal.
With over 20 years in the energy sector, Leader Energy has operated more than 1,000MW of power plants in the Asia Pacific region. The company is committed to “advancing Malaysia’s agenda to achieve 31% renewable energy by 2025 and 40% by 2035,” said Izwan Rasul, Country Manager of LSSB.
