Myanmar-based Gold Energy Company Limited (GE) announced the official launch of the 20MW Taungdaw Gwin solar power plant. It is considered a milestone project in the country’s electrification and energy transition efforts, especially given the severe impact of the pandemic and global socio-economic fluctuations.

Located on a site southeast of Kyaukse in Myit Thar Municipality, the Taungdaw Gwin solar project was developed by GE’s subsidiary Green Power Energy Company Limited (GPE).

Following the principle of giving back to the community, the GPE team carried out an in-depth environmental and social impact assessment to ensure the construction was carried out in a responsible and sustainable manner. A notable example is that the GPE team built and installed two flyovers, 20.1 meters long and 4.5 meters wide, to make commuting easier for local people.

The Taungdaw Gwin Project includes 45,980 solar panels with integrated solar tracking systems. Estimated capacity is around 25.1 MWdc or 22.9 MWac. Last month, the project began transmission to the National Grid via a 69.6 km 33 kV transmission line.

As a nation-building partner, GPE is strongly committed to infrastructure development and sustainability in Myanmar. This and other renewable energy projects we are involved in will increase the contribution of renewable energy to the national power grid while advancing the country’s national electrification goals.

—said U Zaw Win, Managing Director of GPE.

Taungdaw Gwin is GE’s second major solar project. Clean Power Energy Limited, another GE subsidiary, completed the 30 MW Thapyay Wa project in Mandalay district in December last year.
