Global provider of sustainable energy MPC Energy Solutions (MPCES) announced the completion of the 12.3 MW Parque Solar Los Girasoles project in the Colombian region of Norte de Santander.
The solar power plant is projected generate around 23 GWh of solar energy annually, which will help avoid 100,000 tons of CO2 emissions during its lifetime. The energy generated by the project will be sold through a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) to a leading Colombian energy trading company and utility, Spectrum, generating approximately US$1.3 million in revenue per year.

Fraga also explained that the project will play a crucial role in driving the company’s energy transition and will help it become Colombia’s first 100% renewable energy provider.
MPCES has invested $11 million of equity in the development and construction of the project and intends to secure debt financing after commissioning.
Parque Solar Los Girasoles is the third project in MPCES’ portfolio to start operations this year. Colombian company Socolco SAS acted as the engineering and construction (E&C) contractor for this project. The solar modules used were supplied by Trina Solar, the inverters by Huawei.
