Castillo Engineering, a leading design and engineering firm specializing in solar and energy storage projects, recently announced the creation of a new civil engineering division to expand its electrical engineering services offering and better serve the needs of its designers and EPC customers. This move aims to fill a significant gap in the U.S. distributed solar and storage generation market.
A study by leading research and advisory group Wood Mackenzie predicts that The US municipal solar market is projected to grow 118% over the next five years, with at least 6 GWdc of municipal solar capacity on-grid in existing markets between 2023 and 2027.
However, according to the company, in the landscape of solar-plus-storage engineering firms, there is currently none that provides both construction and electrical engineering services in-house, exclusively for distributed projects under 20MW.

Castillo Engineering will offer both services internally, This allows for much greater communication and integration between the two disciplines. This results in greater design continuity and shorter timelines for projects of this nature.
We are excited to open this department to improve both the quality and turnaround time of projects for our developers and EPC customers.
– said Christopher Castillo, CEO of Castillo Engineering.
“Our decision to create this new division is purely in response to our customers’ needs and feedback, and we look forward to providing the same high level of service to our commercial designs as we do to our electrical designs,” added Castillo.
Over the past year, Castillo Engineering has seen a 150% increase in utility scale and community solar projects. With this new division, the company will also be able to meet the high demand for construction and electrical engineering services for distributed projects across the country.
Marc Mason, PE, who has 41 years of civil engineering experience, is appointed senior civil engineer and leads Castillo Engineering’s civil engineering division. Castillo Engineering is based in Maitland, Florida and is licensed in all 50 US states and Puerto Rico.
